My New Chuck Duran Commercial Demo: Behind the Session & Spotlight

October 8, 2026 by Rich Summers

The Day My Demo Got Reborn — Working With Chuck Duran at Demos That Rock

There’s a moment in every voice actor’s career when you stop sounding like someone trying to make it…and start sounding like you. The REAL you. For me, that moment happened in July, working from my studio in Idaho and connected via Zoom to Chuck Duran’s studio at Demos That Rock, the day we recorded my new commercial demo.

I’ve been behind a microphone for years. I’ve voiced national brands, political campaigns, and gritty Western‑cinematic spots that feel like they were carved out of the Idaho mountains I call home. But working with Chuck and Stacey wasn’t just another session. It was a recalibration. A sharpening. A leveling‑up.

This blog is for voice actors who want to understand what really happens when you work with one of the best demo producers in the industry — and how to know if you’re ready for that step.

Why I Chose Chuck Duran

Chuck isn’t just a demo producer. He’s a strategist. A director. A guy who can hear your brand in the first five seconds and know exactly how to amplify it.

I wanted a demo that:

  • Showed my authentic Western‑rooted grit
  • Highlighted my range without sounding like a sampler platter
  • Positioned me for national commercial work
  • Matched the quality agencies and buyers expect in 2026 and beyond

Chuck delivered all of that — and then some.

Prepping for the Session

Once my session with Chuck was officially booked and I had my scripts in hand, I reached out to Tina Morasco — an incredible coach, casting director, and one of the most generous humans in this industry. The night before my session, she spent over an hour directing me, line by line, dialing me in on each script and sharpening every read until it felt undeniable. That prep changed everything. I logged into the Zoom session with Chuck and Stacey the next morning already warmed up, locked in, and ready to perform at the level the session demanded. If you’re planning to record a professional demo, I can’t recommend this enough: work with a coach on your scripts before you step into the booth. It’s one of the smartest investments you can make.

Inside the Session: What It Actually Feels Like

Working with Chuck and Stacey feels like stepping into a place where careers get tuned like instruments. He’s calm, dialed‑in, and laser‑focused on pulling out your best read.

Here’s what stood out:

  • He directs with precision. Not vague notes — actionable adjustments that instantly elevate your delivery.
  • They know the market. Every script written by Stacey for me had a purpose. Every tone matched a buyer.
  • He builds demos that sell. Not just “sound cool.” Not just “show range.” They convert.

I’ve worked with directors before. Chuck is different. He’s surgical.

The Moment Everything Clicked

There was a point — a few minutes in — where I felt my voice lock into place. The grit, the warmth, the authority… all of it lined up. Chuck and Stacey looked at me and said, “That’s the one.”

When someone with their experience says that, you feel it.

That’s the moment I knew this demo wasn’t just an update. It was a new chapter.

What Voice Actors Should Know Before Booking Chuck

If you’re considering working with Chuck, here’s the truth:

  • You need to know your brand. Chuck can refine it, but he can’t invent it for you.
  • You need to be ready to perform. This isn’t a coaching session — it’s a recording session.
  • You need to trust the process. Chuck has produced demos for the biggest names in the industry. Let him steer.

If you’re serious about leveling up, he’s worth every penny.

Time for Demo Day

Chuck and Stacey filmed a VO Buzz Weekly Spotlight during my session — a behind‑the‑scenes look at the process, the reads, and the energy in the room.

Final Thoughts: Why This Demo Matters

This demo isn’t just a reel. It’s a statement.

It represents:

Years of honing a voice shaped by Idaho mountains and Western authenticity

A brand built on grit, warmth, and cinematic storytelling

A commitment to showing up at the highest level of the industry

Working with Tina Morasco, Chuck Duran and Stacey Asward didn’t change who I am as a voice actor.
It revealed it.

Western Authenticity: The Human Truth Modern Brands Can’t Fake

September 16, 2026 by Rich Summers

Why Western Authenticity in Modern Branding Resonates

There’s a reason Western authenticity in modern branding still hits harder than any trend, gimmick, or AI‑generated voice ever will. It isn’t a style. Nor is it a filter. It isn’t something you sprinkle on top of a script to make it sound rugged or “down‑to‑earth.”

Western authenticity is earned.

It’s built from the places you come from, the people who raised you, the land you worked, and the values you absorbed long before you ever stepped behind a microphone. It’s not taught — it’s lived. And when you carry that into voiceover, brands feel it. Audiences feel it. Even if they don’t know why, something in them says: this is real.

In a world where so much is polished, automated, and artificially generated, “real” has become a rare commodity.

The Human Connection Brands Are Losing

A lot of modern brands are leaning heavily into AI voices. On paper, it makes sense. AI is fast. It’s cheap. It’s consistent. But it’s also missing the one thing that makes storytelling work: humanity.

AI can mimic tone. It can mimic pacing. It can mimic emotion (to a certain extent).

But it can’t feel anything.

And audiences pick up on that. Consciously or not. When a brand uses a voice that’s too perfect, too smooth, too manufactured, something gets lost. The message might be clear, but the connection isn’t. There’s no grit. No soul. No lived experience behind the words.

That’s why voices like Sam Elliott, Jeff Bridges, Brian Cox, Bryan Cranston, and others like them resonate so deeply. They don’t just read copy. They embody it. Their voices carry miles, memories, and meaning. They sound like they’ve earned the right to speak.

That’s Western authenticity.

What Western Authenticity Communicates

When a brand chooses a voice rooted in real Western experience , whether it’s for aviation, automotive, agriculture, outdoor gear, or political messaging — it sends a message far beyond the script:

This brand is real. It understands its audience. This brand values tradition, heritage, hard work, and honesty, and it’s built on something that matters.

Western authenticity in modern branding tells consumers: you can trust us. Not because the brand says so, but because the voice delivering the message feels like someone who’s lived the values the brand stands for.

That’s the difference between sounding believable and being believable.

How Authenticity Shows Up in the Read

When I deliver a script with Western authenticity, it’s not an act. It’s instinct and pacing that feels natural, not forced. Knowing when to let the copy breathe. It’s understanding the emotional arc of the script. The opening, body, the close, and responding to it like a real human being, not a performer hitting marks.

It’s confidence without arrogance. Warmth without softness. Gravitas without theatrics.

It’s trusting that the right people will hear it and connect with it, and not taking it personally if they don’t. That’s part of the work. That’s part of the life.

And it’s something AI can’t replicate, no matter how advanced it becomes.

What Brands Lose Without It

When brands choose voices that are overly polished, generic, or artificially generated, they risk losing the story. They lose the relatability. They lose the human essence that makes people lean in and listen.

Authenticity isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s quiet, grounded, almost like an inner dialogue. Other times it’s strong, bold, and commanding. But no matter the delivery, it’s always real.

And real is what audiences crave.

The Bottom Line

Western authenticity resonates in modern branding because it’s one of the last things you can’t fake. You can’t automate it or generate it. You don’t and can’t shortcut your way to it.

It’s earned through life, shaped by environment, and carried in the voice of the person telling the story.

Brands that understand that and choose voices that embody it, stand out in a world full of noise.

They sound human. Trustworthy.  And they sound like they mean what they say.

And that’s something no algorithm can replace.
